Sunita Paul’s Allegations – are these part of a concerted agenda to destabilize the current Bangladesh Government?

In recent months, Sunita Paul has drawn much curiosity from many Bangladeshis. She has been introduced to us as a 57-year old Indian journalist who is an expert on South Asia. However, a thorough scrutiny only reveals that she is no expert on anything; she was virtually unknown in the print media before 2008. Worse still, she has ties with the anti-Muslim bigots and activists in the Zionist, Christian-right and Indian triangle of evil that has agenda which are not good for Bangladesh and her people. For the last few years American Chronicle and Global Politician where she writes are at the fore front of that assault. Interestingly, the American Chronicle has also been posting articles from Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury of the Blitz, a very controversial journalist with dubious background. His connection with Richard Benkin, a pro-Israel lobbyist, is well-known to many of us. Lest we forget, the same Mr. Benkin was hired by the BNP Government as a PR campaigner, at the behest of Mr. Lutfozzaman Babar (then the Home Minister) at a monthly retainer fee of $5000 in 2005.

Who is Sunita Paul really? We may never know, since her true identity is shrouded in charade and misinformation. The American Chronicle where she writes tells us that “Born as a deaf and dumb, Sunita Paul decided to use pen in expressing herself.” [http://www.americanchronicle.com/authors/view/2950] Then we read her interview with Kazi Azizul Huq, International Affairs Secretary of the Bangladesh Khilafat Andolon. It is not difficult to understand the reason behind the interview: Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan supports withdrawal of travel ban on Israel. So one wonders how a born deaf and dumb conducted her interview of Mr. Huq, unless this was done via email exchanges!

Sunita has campaigned for Salah Uddin Shoaib Chowdhury, a person whom she admired much. In her own blogspot sunitapaul.blogspot.com though, she claimed that Shoaib tried to molest her on September 2, 2008. In her own words, “I went to Shoaib's residence today to take my update about his case. I was sitting in his murky drawing room when he entered there drunk. Upon some gibberish words, he suddenly grabbed me hard and tried to molest me. I tried to push him off and when I failed, I screamed. Some domestic help came to the spot and rescued me. I left his house immediately. I now know that behind the veil of his international fake image of peace lover, Shoaib is a true criminal. Hence I am withdrawing all the good things that I wrote about him. Death to that bastard!” And yet, in a March 6, 2009 article she writes, “If the judges of Nobel Peace Prize Committee are looking for a real Hero of today’s world to decorate with the most prestigious prize, they surely will not find anyone else except Choudhury, who certainly fits the criteria very precisely.” [“Bangladesh’s Real Hero and the Nobel Peace Prize,” American Chronicle] Probably, the two have been able to patch things up. Can Bangladesh Embassy in India confirm issuing her visa so as to validate her claim that she was in Bangladesh on and around September 2, 2008?

In a March 30, 2008 post in the Asian Tribune.com, Sunita called Bangladesh “a notorious Jew hater and anti West and anti American nation.” [They Hate US-West too by Sunita Paul] It is sad to see that in recent months, many media barons in Bangladesh that are upset with Awami League's victory in the last election are giving her all the access she has been craving for. Little do these people realize that tying knots with a devil is a no win situation. Devil's intention is ever bad! Truly, we don't need an outsider with no love for Bangladesh and her people to tell us what is wrong with us and how to fix it. Even if such people were to diagnose a problem right, they would offer solutions that are deadly. Let's not forget what their ultimate intentions are before we get too excited with their thesis.

Again, Sunita is part of a nexus that would do everything that is possible to divide our people and strengthen the hands of groups that would undermine our sovereignty and freedom. This does not, however, mean that our government in Bangladesh should evade answering many such questions posed by her, because silence in the time of panic or confusion is a foolish strategy; it can threaten the very stability of the government. As we can all testify the delay in the government disclosure of the inquiry report on Peel Khana massacre is already having a devastating ripple effect on our people that are now paying more attention to rumors and believing in stories that may have little to do with the facts behind the massacre. The government is doing a blunder here by not putting a lid on such rumors! It must disclose the truth and nothing but the truth fast.

Sunita claims that the Hasina government is pushing the country to a one-party rule. I personally would like to believe that the current government is serious about multi-party democracy and won’t do anything utterly stupid. Sunita's attempt suggesting otherwise is ignoble and nothing short of fear-mongering and creating an environment of confusion, mistrust and panic that would only weaken our national fabric. We can’t afford it. Not now anyway.
