Since late August 2017, under the act on 144 curfews have been imposed only on Rohingya residents of Maungdaw Township.
Under the curfew, Rohingyas are not allowed to leave their homes from 9 pm till 5 am in the morning.
The curfew duration imposed since then was about to finish, but Burmese authorities once again extended the curfew for two more months in the region.
In the new notice, they referred the situation of Arakan (Rakhine) to be vulnerable and presented it as a key reason of curfew extension.

“These are just new tricks to further control and tighten Rohingyas movement to make us suffer more and more,” explained a Rohingya from Maungdaw.
Rohingya cannot move out of their homes after 8 pm, even though the curfew timing starts after 9 pm. If any Rohingya in seen out since 8 pm, they will either be harassed or extorted money by Burmese authorities, say locals.
