Religious Freedom Report Highlights Persecution in China

05/01/2019 China (International Christian Concern) – The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) released its annual religious freedom report on April 29. In that report, China was considered a Tier 1 country of particular concern (CPC). This means that through research, USCIRF has determined that China is one of the worst violators of religious freedom in the world.
Currently, the U.S. is navigating a major trade deal with China. USCIRF wants officials to incorporate clauses that promote human rights and religious freedom. USCIRF suggests any trade agreement should include rights to worship along with opportunities for money, jobs, and resources.
Last year, the Chinese government made an agreement with the Vatican over the presence of the Catholic Church in China. However, in spite of this, the Catholic Church continued to be oppressed and suppressed even more after the meetings. Along with this, hundreds of protestant house churches have been shut down by the Chinese government.
China continues to oppress religious groups in favor of pushing communist and atheist ideals on the nation. USCIRF says that China continues to grow worse in their persecution of all religion.
