As Myanmar commemorates Armed Forces Day, its growing ties with Russia are raising concerns. Despite losing territory to rebel groups, the junta secures advanced weaponry from Moscow, including fighter jets and attack helicopters. Junta leader Min Aung Hlaing has deepened his relationship with Vladimir Putin, signing agreements for a nuclear power plant and gifting six elephants. Critics say Russia's support fuels the ongoing civil war, as the military uses Russian jets to target villages and civilians. With elections promised in 2025 but facing skepticism, can the junta maintain control with Russia's backing, or will the rebel offensive prevail?
