CAIR-CA Condemns Death Threats made by Former FBI Agent John Guandolo

CAIR-CA Condemns Death Threats Targeting CEO Hussam Ayloush on X Account of Anti-Muslim Extremist, Disgraced Former FBI Agent John Guandolo

The California chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CA) today condemned online death threats directed at Hussam Ayloush, the organization’s CEO and executive director of CAIR’s Greater Los Angeles Area office (CAIR-LA), on the public X account of former FBI agent and anti-Muslim extremist John Guandolo.

In the post, Guandolo reportedly wrote, “…Hussam Ayloush–should have had a bullet in his head long ago … In Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and other such countries American military men would end this turd.”

CAIR-CA is treating the statement as a serious threat and has notified the appropriate authorities.

In a statement, CAIR-LA Legal Director Amr Shabaik said:

“Any threat of political violence targeting civil rights leaders is appalling and unacceptable—but this violent rhetoric aimed at a prominent member of the California Muslim community is especially alarming coming from an individual with a documented history of promoting Islamophobic conspiracy theories and inciting hostility toward American Muslims.

“We have reported this threat to law enforcement and will continue to take every appropriate measure to protect the safety of our staff and community.”

BACKGROUNDER ON ANTI-MUSLIM BIGOT JOHN GUANDOLO:

Among his many bizarre and Islamophobic statements, Guandolo has falsely claimed that:

  • Mosques are planning armed attacks on law enforcement authorities and churches.
  • The Black Lives Matter movement is funded by “enemies of the United States.”
  • When a Delaware imam (Islamic religious leader) touched his nose during the pledge of allegiance before a legislative session it was part of “civilizational jihad.”
  • Former CIA Director John Brennan was a secret Muslim.
  • Muslims are “obligated” to lie.
  • Muslim hotel managers, cabbies, and 7-11 workers seek to take over America.

The FBI previously investigated an image tweeted by Guandolo’s hate group Understanding the Threat that purported to show the bombing of “CAIR HQ” in Washington, D.C. Guandolo, who has previously tweeted that “CAIR needs to be obliterated,” re-tweeted the bombing image on his personal account. He also tweeted that “Islam is evil & barbaric.”

Anti-Muslim Speaker Now Accused of Assaulting a Sheriff

Minnesota’s Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek has also accused Guandolo of assaulting him during a national law enforcement conference in Reno, Nevada. CAIR welcomed a Texas jury’s award of $600,000 to Stanek in his civil lawsuit against Guandolo.

In 2018, CAIR’s national office welcomed a decision by Tennessee’s Trevecca Nazarene University to cancel an anti-Muslim event that would have featured three Islamophobic speakers, including Guandolo.

CAIR similarly welcomed a decision by Virginia’s Amherst County Sheriff’s Office to cancel an event featuring Islamophobic conspiracy theorist Chris Gaubatz. At the time, Gaubatz was an employee of Understanding the Threat.
