CAIR Condemns Brett McGurk as ‘War Criminal’ Ahead of Book Release
Muslim civil rights and advocacy group calls on policymakers and elected officials to reject advice from war criminal-turned-venture capitalist
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned former Biden administration official Brett McGurk as a “war criminal” and called on policymakers and elected officials to reject any advice or collaboration from him as he prepares to release a new book about his disastrous policy work in the Middle East.
In a statement, Washington, D.C., based CAIR said:
“We reiterate our longstanding condemnation of Brett McGurk, a war criminal turned venture capitalist who played a key role in developing, justifying and executing the Biden administration’s most disastrous foreign policy decisions.
“From the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan that ended with a drone attack on an innocent Afghan family to arming the Israeli government’s genocide to trying to sideline aspirations for a Palestinian state, Brett McGurk is a living example of the failures of the Washington establishment.
“Mr. McGurk should be sitting in a cell at The Hague, not preparing to embark on a book tour and arranging venture capital deals with foreign authoritarians. We call on all policy makers and elected officials to reject any advice or collaboration with Mr. McGurk in the future. He should never serve in any White House.”
Since leaving the Biden administration when President Trump took office, McGurk has reportedly acted as a dealmaker for AI companies and foreign authoritarians, including governments he once illegally approved to receive weapons from the United States.

“Brett’s theory of the region is that it’s a source of instability but also resources,” a former Biden administration official told the Huffington Post. “It’s a very old-school, colonialist mentality: People need strong rulers to control them, and we need to extract to our benefit what we need while minimizing the cost to ourselves and others we see as like us, in this case Israelis.”
Another official reportedly said of McGurk, “He’s an unstoppable force of failing up to me…” while another reportedly said, “If a nuclear bomb was dropped on D.C., two forms of life would survive: cockroaches and Brett McGurk.”
