Politics of Hate: Welcome to West Bengal under BJP rule
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has announced that singing Vande Mataram will now be mandatory in schools across the state. The Chief Minister said that from Monday onwards, all schools must sing the national song, adding that a formal government order will soon be issued from the Secretariat.
The move comes amid a long-standing political debate in Bengal over Vande Mataram, with earlier clashes between the BJP and TMC on the issue. BJP leaders have consistently pushed for wider adoption of the national song in educational institutions, while the TMC had previously accused the BJP of politicizing cultural icons and symbols.
