Dear Samantha,

The Electronic Intifada is hosting a livestream today, 2 July 2026.

1600 UTC / 1900 Palestine time / 1900 Amman / 1700 UK / 1800 CET / 12 pm ET / 11 am CT / 9 am PT

It has now been 1,000 days since 7 October 2023 – 1,000 days of Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

It is clear: This was a genocide from the start.

Immediately, Israeli leaders declared their intentions openly. On 9 October 2023, then-defense minister – and indicted war criminal – Yoav Gallant announced what he called a “complete siege” on Gaza: “There will be no electricity, no food, no fuel, everything is closed. We are fighting human animals and we act accordingly.”

In January 2024, the International Court of Justice cited that and other statements as evidence of a plausible genocide and ordered Israel to halt all genocidal acts – a ruling it has ignored with impunity.

To reflect on this terrible milestone, we’re joined by Asem Alnabih in Gaza. Asem is an engineer, PhD researcher and was the spokesperson for Gaza Municipality. He is now a correspondent for Al Araby TV.

Asem has been in Gaza since the start of the genocide. He has written powerfully for The Electronic Intifada about survival, loss, family, starvation, memory and the dreams, hopes and futures Israel has tried to steal from the people of Gaza.

Nora Barrows-Friedman will start us off with news from across Palestine and Lebanon and Ali Abunimah will report back from his visit to Switzerland.

Please join Nora, Ali, Asa Winstanley and Tamara Nassar for all this and more. Jon Elmer is away this week.

Thank you for reading, listening to and sharing all our original news and analysis at The Electronic Intifada.
