WeLoveBD Inc., a U.S.-based democracy, human rights, and development advocacy organization for Bangladesh, categorically denounces the false and incendiary statement issued by U.S. Presidential candidate Donald J. Trump on October 31, 2024. Mr. Trump’s claim of “barbaric violence against Hindus, Christians, and other minorities…in Bangladesh” is both unfounded and a gross mischaracterization of recent developments in Bangladesh. During a critical time when Bangladesh is committed to restoring democracy and upholding human rights after decades of authoritarian repression, these misrepresentations irresponsibly fuel divisive narratives.

 

The Real Situation in Bangladesh: Facts Over Falsehoods

 

Following the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5, 2024, Bangladesh has been under a transitional government that prioritizes democracy and inclusivity. While isolated instances of unrest have occurred, these incidents have been politically—not communally—motivated, as confirmed by respected community leaders, including Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus and prominent representatives of the Bangladeshi Hindu community.
