Historical revisionism in India

Historical facts have been abused and twisted in India at the altar of Hindutva to promote its divisive and fascist agenda that sees Muslims in the worst possible ways imaginable. And sure enough, Aurangzeb - the last of the great Mughal emperors - who unlike some of his predecessors - was reportedly an observing Muslim - had the worst share of vilification in the hands of those communal Hindu historians. 

The interested readers may like to read my take on this highly contentious subject, which I originally wrote nearly two decades ago in response to an article by Dr Amartya Sen in the NY Times in the aftermath of 9/11.  There, while trying to promote Akbar's rule Prof Sen downgraded Aurangzeb's.
