US DETERMINATION ON ROHINGYA GENOCIDE MUST BE FOLLOWED BY CONCRETE ACTION PLAN TO END THE ROHINGYA GENOCIDE & ATROCITIES IN MYANMAR WITHOUT DELAY.

 

Myanmar Ethnic Rohingya Human Rights Organization in Malaysia (MERHROM) welcomes the Rohingya Genocide determination by the US government. We deeply hope this will be translated into concrete action plans without further delay. We believe US can do a lot more to stop long decades of Rohingya Genocide and atrocities in Myanmar. We deeply hope other countries will join the US government to make a formal determination on the Rohingya Genocide and taking concrete actions to stop the Rohingya Genocide and atrocities in Myanmar without further delay. Various efforts by various stakeholders at different levels must be strengthened for collective implementations to end the Rohingya Genocide and atrocities in Myanmar.

The world is witnessing how many Myanmar people across ethnicity are being killed, raped and tortured by the Myanmar military over decades. We do not need more proves of these crimes or sacrifices more lives before taking concrete actions to end the Rohingya Genocide and atrocities in Myanmar.

 

We really need the effective interventions from the US government to end the Rohingya Genocide. The US government must have a concrete action plan following its determination on Rohingya Genocide including:

 

1.    To pressure the United Nations Security Council to take effective measures to end the Rohingya Genocide without further delay

2.    To pressure the United Nations to deploy UN Peacekeeping Troops to Myanmar to protect civilian, prevent genocide and atrocities, monitor human rights violations and restore peace and security

3.    To fully use the 1948 UN Genocide Convention to end the Rohingya Genocide, protect the survivors and prosecute perpetrators

4.    To fully support Gambia for the International Court of Justice (ICJ) process

5.    To initiate legal actions against the perpetrators

6.    To revamp VETO system that was an obstacle to the end of the Rohingya Genocide

7.    To continue its advocacy and interventions for democracy restoration in Myanmar

8.    To immediately stop the Myanmar-Bangladesh Rohingya repatriation plan from Cox’s bazar refugee camps. The Myanmar military must re-integrate the Rohingya in the IDP camps, restore Rohingya citizenship and to stop Genocide and atrocities in Myanmar before thinking about repatriation plan. The previous repatriation of Rohingya to Myanmar only resulted in further persecutions

9.    To collaborate with the UNHCR to increase quota for resettlement for Rohingya Genocide Survivors to USA and other resettlement countries

10. To advocates to all stakeholders to officially recognize and declare the Rohingya Genocide and collaborate effectively to end the Rohingya Genocide.
