At least 274 Palestinians have been killed in attacks on 21 shelter schools in the Gaza Strip since 4 July, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) revealed on Saturday.
In a statement issued yesterday, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said more than half of the schools used as shelters by displaced Palestinians in Gaza have been directly targeted over the past ten months. It stressed the “urgent need” for a ceasefire in Gaza.
This statement follows the recent killing of more than 100 Palestinians and the injury of hundreds more in an Israeli air strike that targeted worshippers during dawn prayers at Al-Tabi’in School, which had been serving as a refuge for those fleeing Israeli military operations, according to the Gaza Government Media Office.
Over the past ten months, Israel has waged a genocidal war on Gaza leaving vast tracts of the enclave in ruins amid a crippling blockade of food, clean water and medicine.
Israel is accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
