Today’s horrendous events are the direct outcomes of policy and political decisions made at the highest levels of governments in the three rogue or criminal states of Israel, USA and UK - in that order of policy influence. They have been taking place at a pace faster than my fingers can type my pained, rage-filled and researched words.

As an anti-genocide activist and a student of genocides, the two events that have impacted me deeply of late are the Appeal Court ruling on 15 June that the non-violence Palestine Action is a “terrorist” organization and 13 June sentencing of Filton 4, the activists who engaged in non-violence opposition to the British state’s genocide connection - as opposed to “terrorist connection” - as if they were terrorists.
This month on the British soil, I bore witness to genocide-indifferent judges behaving like Orwellian colonialist thieves, defending “property” & the American poodle Raj, just like my ancestors who loathed the British colonial rule in Burma one hundred years ago did.

On Friday 12 June I was with a large gathering of citizen supporters of Filton 4, for much of the afternoon outside the Woolich Crown Court where the Neanderthal British judge named Jeremy Johnson sentenced 4 Palestine Action activists who oppose Israel’s British-assisted genocide in Gaza as “terrorists”.
They are: Samuel Conner, 23, Charlotte Head, 30, Leona Kamio, 30, and Fatema Rajwani, 21.

At the rally, I was happy to see my Buddhist monk friend and comrade Ajan (holding Ellie’s photo to the far right) at the rally. Ajan spent 3 months in the West Bank as part of the program called “(non-violence) protective presence” to deter, to the extent possible, terrorist violence by marauding gangs of Jewish Ku Klux Klan settlers amongst indigenous Palestinian villages in Southern Hebron Hills.
What is their crime that Judge Johnson treated as having “terrorist connection”?
About 2 years ago, at the start of what became fast apparent as Israel’s war of mass extermination, using as a welcome pretext Palestinian resistance groups’ last ditch jail break in Gaza on 7 October 2023, these British activists technically broke the law of today’s Britain, itself entirely built on genocidal slave trade/slavery and criminal colonial empire, emphatically for a higher moral purpose: they broke into Israel’s Elbit System factory at a place near Bristol called Filton, smashed about 40 killer-drones in 20 minutes inside the factory so that there would be 40-less killing machines in Israel’s hand.
These Elbit drones made in UK and shipped to Israel (and Ukraine) are known to be one of the mass-murder instruments used against Palestinian civilian populations by Israeli Defence Forces (Israel’s equivalent of Himmler’s SS in Gaza).
Three days after the genocide-indifferent British judge Johnson meted out unprecedented terror sentencing against the young activists at Woolich Crown Court, the British Appeal Court presided over by the first-ever woman chief justice of England and Wales, The Lady Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill, overturned the earlier High Court’s ruling that the British pseudo-Labour Government’s treatment of Palestine Action as “proscribed” or “terrorist” organization is unlawful.
To my dismay and profound disgust, I watched news clips of both British judges - both trained in the august law departments, Middle Temple and Inner Temple in London, weaponize law in real time in the service of the typically corporate-neo-imperialist-controlled British state.
In her ruling to support the genocide-collaborating British government’s proscription of non-violence Palestine Action, the Lady Carr spelled out two things: first, killer and surveillance drones that activists destroyed as a pre-emptive act of moral objection are to be treated solely as “property” (of British-Israeli joint company called Elbit) and second, these “properties” are supplied by the British state to the highly coordinated Anglophone’s intelligence networks called Five Eyes, and Ukraine where NATO is fighting a proxy/ neo-imperialist war against Russia.
Like her fellow judge Johnson, the first woman ever to hold this high office is indifferent to both moral foundations of the direct actions unmistakably aimed at disrupting the genocidal weapons manufacturing on British soil and the subsequent arms shipment to Israel where Britain is directly involved in genocidal landgrab.
Instantly, my heart sank and I felt like I was watching a horror show wherein the glorified human tools of British imperialism, namely Johnson and Carr, the two highly trained Oxbridge-schooled white judges - “did their job”, interpretating the British law to serve Britain’s corporate and neo-imperialist ends.
As a matter of fact, neither Johnson nor Carr is an independent judge making independent legal (intellectual/technical) decisions interpreting the law as it is written, their pretences to the contrary.
Both judges are there doing their jobs, twisting the law, as expected by the genocide-collaborating British state.

From the trial of SS Colonel Adolf Eichman in Jerusalem to Hollywood’s The Reader (starring Ralph Fiennes and Kate Winslet), the real world Nazis were trying to excuse their depravity and savage callousness best encapsulated in the all-too-familiar line, “I was just doing my job”. I felt chill in my spine when Himmler’s SS guard Hannah Schmid character (played by Kate Winslet) uttered her meek and mild self-defence.

Both British judges were doing their jobs. The parallel is chilling not because of two individual judges twisted the law at home to serve the agenda of a political regime in power, but the modern British state remains what it always has been: colonial and genocidal at its core.
Never mind that a group of young British citizens who lead their apparently examined lives - to oppose British-involved genocide in Gaza - are being ruined by the magistrate court judge while the Appeal Court’s ruling in favour of the appellant Zionist regime of (the now disgracefully ousted) Keir Starmer, would wreck the lives of hundreds of old British pensioners including retired vicars, teachers, RAF veterans, and so on who decided to risk imprisonment by coming out to support Palestine Action and its genocide opposition.
I came from the formerly British-colonized sovereign country called Burma (since 1989, Myanmar). The two cases of grotesque miscarriage of justice remind me what Britain stood for in the colonies: genocidal, race-supremacist, thieving, looting and ultra-hypocritical.
A couple of lines from George Orwell’s Burmese Days have since playing in my head:
brandishing a traditional warrior Burmese sword in his hand, a young Burmese villager in a large mob that came to surrounded the White Only British (and European) club in a mid-sized administrative town, demanding extrajudicial justice for some colonial wrong, was shouting, “We know we have no justice in your courts”.
On understanding colonialism, Orwell’s Burmese Days offers an observation far better than Conrad’s classic The Heart of Darkness. That Burmese Days remains relatively unknown and unpopular in Britain is in and of itself a testament to its no-holds-barred self-reflections Orwell offered: that the British Empire, like today’s British State, was nothing but a thieving, lying, and repressive dictatorship, with an utterly ugly veneer of “Civilization”, certainly White Only and “Judeo-Christian” also (?).
When the Appeal Court judge - Lady Lord Justice Dame Sue Carr read out her court’s ruling on Palestine Action whereby she pronounced Elbit’s killer drones as nothing by (capitalist) “property” my mind races to a passage where The Burmese Days’ protagonist Mr Foley characterized his employer: “the British Empire is a dictatorship, benign, yes, but with theft at its ultimate objective.”
Indeed, in the eyes of British thieves, whether they are average Joe or highly trained judges on the benches, killer-drones are nothing but “properties” with price tag.
The truth about the British Empire, or for that matter the really existing Empire of USA, any secondary psychological pains rooted in the imperialist/colonialist genocides, crimes against humanity, or war crimes (against other people, generally people of colour in the colonies) are only small moral injuries which members of the ruling imperialist strata suffer, internally.
Eric Blair, the real name of George Orwell, who was himself an Eton-educated police inspector in the British Imperial Police in colonial Burma in the 1910’s, killed his protagonist, Mr foley, in The Burmese Days. Inspector Blair knew the Empire inside out, as he himself was engaged in crimes against humanity including torture of the colonized suspected of various crimes in Burma. In real life, Mr Blair returned to England and chose isolation on a Scottish Isle where he smoked himself to death, while infested with tuberculosis.
But then again Orwell was a brutally honest and introspective human who came to loath himself for what he had done as a cock in the genocidal thieving imperial machine, the British Raj, and sought to atone his crimes in Burma by exposing the savagery of the Empire which he served.
I highly doubt the two aforementioned British judges - Johnson and Carr - are cut from the same intellectually honest cloth as the Imperial Police Inspector Eric Blair (George Orwell) was 100 years ago. For these contemporary judges made their grotesque readings of the law against the backdrop of de-colonization and worldwide anti-(White/Western) colonialism while Orwell condemned the British Empire before it was reduced to an American poodle at the end of the World War II.
Contrary to the conventional wisdom, the British Empire did NOT die. It hitches the new and far superior, richer and more militaristic US Empire out of the British ruling class’s need to remain “imperial”. For Britain’s ruling elite, it is preferrable to stay relevant by embracing its new found role as an American poodle to being utterly irrelevant in the world where Britain no longer rules the waves.
This is an observation made by Matt Kennard, something which I fully concur with.
The only consoling thought for today’s British judges (and any British officials) who continue to behave as if their employer were still a mighty British Empire - as opposed to Little England where Nigel Farage, a British Fascist in all but name, could become the Prime Minister, is a paradigmatic Buddhist thought that their Karma will catch up with them.
Personally, I hope they too will burn in their proverbial Christian Hell when their time is up on this earth, just like thousands of cocks in the imperialist machine who terrorised the colonized and branded anti-resisters among the natives as “terrorists”,.
Just like Woolich Crown Court’s Magistrate Johnson and the first-ever Woman Lord Justice Dame Sue Carr had done.
One hundred years ago in Orwell’s Burma, an average villager observed, “We know we have no justice in your courts.”
British justice remains an oxymoron.
