Message from Electronic Intifada

The Electronic Intifada is hosting a livestream today, 3 September 2026.

1600 UTC / 1900 Palestine time / 1900 Amman / 1700 UK / 1800 CET / 12 pm ET / 11 am CT / 9 am PT

Palestinian writer and poet Ahmed Abu Artema helped inspire the Great March of Return, the mass mobilization demanding Palestinian refugees’ right to return and an end to Israel’s blockade of Gaza.

Israel met the demonstrations with sniper fire, killing 212 Palestinians and wounding more than 36,000. Years later, an Israeli missile struck Abu Artema’s family home, killing his 13-year-old son Abdullah and several other relatives and seriously injuring Ahmed and two of his surviving children.

After enduring 690 days of genocide, Abu Artema was permitted to leave Gaza with only his documents, telephone and the clothes he was wearing. He now lives in the Netherlands while his family remains scattered across three countries.

On today’s program, we welcome Abu Artema, recipient of the 2026 AMEU/John F. and Sharon Mahoney Award for Service, to discuss Israel’s continuing attacks and blockade under the so-called ceasefire, the scars of genocide and exile and what people around the world must do.

Jon Elmer will bring us the latest on the battle in the Strait of Hormuz and the resumption of the missile war between the US and Iran. Also, the resistance in Gaza salutes military media commander Abu Obeida.

Nora Barrows-Friedman will start the program with news from Palestine and Lebanon, including a dispatch from our contributor Roqayah Chamseddine in Beirut.

Please join Jon, Nora, Ali Abunimah and Tamara Nassar for all this and more.

Thank you for reading, listening to and sharing all our original news and analysis at The Electronic Intifada.
