How bad are the Republican candidates?

How bad are the Republican presidential hopefuls? So far, all of them appear to be simply terrible choices for the USA with probably lone exception of Governor Kasich. As to Trump, the front-runner, the least said the better.

George H. W. Bush, Bob Dole, George W. Bush, John McCain, and Mitt Romney - all five of those nominees since 1988 - seem appalled by Trump’s triumph into the race for president.  As noted by veteran political commentator Pat Buchanan, fully 116 members of the GOP’s national security community, many of them veterans of Bush administrations, have signed an open letter threatening that, if Trump is nominated, they will all desert, and some will defect – to Hillary Clinton!
Even Max Boot, a Council on Foreign Relations fellow and foreign policy adviser to the Florida senator Rubio, told The New York Times “I would sooner vote for Josef Stalin than Donald Trump” for a Thursday article covering how some conservatives will never cast their ballot for Trump. “There is no way in hell I would vote for him. I would far more readily support Hillary Clinton,” Boot added.

If you recall, soon after coming to power, Stalin was responsible for the deaths of at least 20 million non-combatants and instigated such atrocities as the forced famine of Ukraine in the 1930s. He also enforced eviction of millions of Chechens and other Central Asian Muslims from their ancestral homes on false charges, which inevitably is responsible for much of trouble facing the region today.

The entire Republican establishment appears to be against Trump, and yet, he is winning with his populist messages. That says a lot about the Republican mind and the direction this country is heading, none of which is desirable.
