 Send a message to your senators urging them to support S. Res. 852 and demand answers, oversight, and accountability.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, urges all Americans nationwide to contact their U.S. Senators and demand that the U.S. government finally report the truth about Israel’s human rights violations and crimes against Americans and Palestinians and what the U.S. government has actually done in response.

Led by Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Tim Kaine (D-Va.), and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), S. Res. 852 would require the State Department to submit an unclassified report to Congress on Israel’s crimes against Americans and Palestinians. CAIR National urges every senator to support the resolution.

Within 30 days of adoption, the report would address:

• Nine Americans killed in the West Bank: Evidence about their killings by Israeli forces or settlers, the status of investigations, potential suspects, and efforts to hold those responsible accountable.
• Americans detained in Israeli prisons: Who is being held, why they are detained, whether they have been charged, access to U.S. Embassy officials, and credible reports of mistreatment.
• Palestinian children in military detention: Conditions, access to attorneys, allegations of torture and other abuses, and the individuals or units responsible.
• U.S. oversight and responsibility: What American officials have done to prevent violence and seek justice, and whether implicated Israeli units are subject to U.S. laws restricting assistance to units responsible for gross human rights violations.

American families deserve answers. The American public deserves to know what its government knows, what it has done, and whether U.S. assistance has enabled or excused abuses. The U.S. government must finally report the truth about Israel’s crimes against Americans and Palestinians.

Under the law invoked by S. Res. 852, failure to submit the required report within 30 days of adoption would trigger restrictions on covered security assistance to Israel. The report would also help Congress determine whether further changes to that assistance are warranted. Adoption alone would not immediately cut off aid.
