In Kowkareik city, at 12:20 p.m. on 27 Oct, 3 artillery fired from the LIB 97 junta’s army base, hit some houses near the Yay Nan Si Kone Mosque in Ward No. 7, killing 2 people and injuring many others.
2 shells fell next to the Mosque and a house was hit while four members of a family was having lunch. The 35-year-old mother Daw Salifa was hit in the head and died on the spot. It was reported that 2 daughters, the 17-year-old Omama’s leg was amputated and a 6-year-old daughter, Omila, is also seriously injured and were being treated at the Kawkareik Public Hospital.
A man in his 30s, Kasim, also died of cardiac arrest when a large artillery shell fell near his house.
According to the local residents that many injured people have arrived at Kawkareik public Hospital due to the heavy weapons fired by the junta forces. Kawkareik city is one of the largest Muslim population exist in Karen state.
